Tallaght Hospital Notice
Tallaght Hospital is aware of a measles outbreak affecting children in Dublin and Meath. Although we have not had any confirmed cases at our Hospital we expect the outbreak to spread and are putting precautions in place to protect all of our patients.
If you think you have been in contact with anyone with Measles in the past 21 days please avoid visiting the hospital. If you have to attend please notify us in advance or immediately on arrival.
A child who has not received 2 doses of the MMR vaccine is considered unvaccinated and not protected against Measles.
Any unvaccinated child with a fever may have contracted Measles. If you are worried about your child please contact your GP and let them know that your child has not had the vaccine. If you are bringing your child urgently to the Children’s Emergency Department please let the Reception staff know as soon as you come to the Hospital.
If you or your child are immunocompromised please also alert staff on arrival for your own protection.
Vaccination remains the most important way of protecting children. Measles is airborne and very contagious. Patients are infectious to others for a few days BEFORE the onset of the rash.
