People Caring for People - Tallaght Hospital Launches its Annual Report for 2014

Over 400,000 patients treated in 2014 – Emphasis placed on improved model of care, increased staff numbers & capital investments

17th June 2015 – Tallaght Hospital has published its Annual Report for 2014 detailing the Hospital’s governance, performance and achievements. The Annual Report, entitled People Caring for People, reflects an emphasis on a patient centred approach to care as well as outlining the future direction of the Hospital in terms of capital investments and improved models of care.

Tallaght Hospital CEO David Slevin stated: “I am pleased to announce the publication of our Annual Report for 2014. As well as detailing the continued progress across key performance metrics, it provides real insight into the operations of each department within the Hospital and how an innovative culture is contributing to better models of care.

This report also shows that our Hospital is firmly rooted in the community it serves and I would again like to state my gratitude to the volunteers, patient representative groups and community organisations that support us.

Tallaght Hospital is at the forefront of developments in the Irish hospital system, responding to people’s needs on a daily basis, but also investing for the future. Our continuing performance improvements is as a result of the collective efforts of people caring for people and gives us a very strong platform for the future.”

The CEO again acknowledged the work of the staff within the Hospital and commended their continued commitment towards the development and improvement of the Hospital’s services.

Tallaght Hospital Chairman Michael Scanlan said: “Real progress is being made at Tallaght Hospital. The Hospital is improving its patient flow processes in order to maximise access to its services, maintaining its focus on quality and financial performance, and starting a programme of capital investment. Its approach to governance combines robust systems and processes, ongoing vigilance and an open proactive learning culture.

This is happening despite increasing demands on hospital services in terms of numbers presenting and the profile and complexity of patient care provided.  As a result, significant challenges remain for Tallaght Hospital and the wider hospital system.  Last year, our Emergency Departments catered for 44,640 adult attendances and 31,934 paediatric attendances. A further 263,929 patients were treated through hospital clinics in 2014. The care and treatment provided to these patients is a tribute to the nearly 3,000 staff involved. The numbers also demonstrate the importance of Tallaght Hospital to its community, its Hospital Group and the wider health system.”
