Tallaght Hospital to Host Free Health & Wellbeing Seminar for Local Over-55s

A joint initiative between Tallaght Hospital & South Dublin County Council

September 16th 2016 Tallaght Hospital is announcing the launch of a new information seminar entitled “Health & Wellbeing for 55+ in the Community”. The seminar will feature staff members along with community workers from South Dublin County Council speaking about a range of topics including nutrition, frailty and falls prevention.

This free event, which takes place on the 28th of September, is targeted at local residents over the age of 55 and aims to raise awareness of the importance of care and healthy living. The provision of seminars such as this reflects the recommendations of the 2014 Health Assets and Needs Assessment report which noted the gradually ageing population in the Tallaght Hospital catchment area. It also reflects the Tallaght Hospital motto of “People Caring for People”.

The seminar takes place in the Tallaght County Library Conference Room, on Belgard Square, from 10am to 1pm. Registration takes place at 9.45am sharp. As well as a line-up of interesting and informative talks, there will also be refreshments provided on the day. Places are limited so booking is essential.

Sandra McCarthy Head of Learning & Development at the Centre for Learning Development of Tallaght Hospital said “This seminar will be an excellent opportunity to engage with some of the local residents in the Tallaght Hospital catchment area to discuss health issues for the over 55s community. At Tallaght Hospital, we are committed to serving the local population, which is slowly getting older. Our motto of People Caring for People is important to us and this seminar will be another example of that motto being put into action. We are grateful for the opportunity to extend this motto into the community by working alongside South Dublin County Council.”

Frank Price and Valerie Brien Community Development Officers of South Dublin County Council said, “We are delighted to be working with Tallaght Hospital on this important event. We are sure that all the attendees will find it very informative and would like to thank the excellent line up of speakers who have agreed to share their expertise. The idea for this event was born out of a discussion between friends about the needs of an ageing population and it is wonderful to see it finally become a reality.”
