The Adult Phlebotomy (Blood Tests) Department offers two types of services (see below for Paediatric information):
- GP Referral Service
- Out-Patient Clinic Referral Service
Please read the information below depending on the service you require.
Opening Hours - (Adults)
- GP Referral Service 8.30am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday.
- Out-Patient Clinic Referral Service 8am to 4.45pm.
Directions to Adult GP Blood Tests Area: On arrival at the main Hospital entrance please use the Self Service Kiosk located opposite the shop and reception desk. Registering at the kiosk will notify the GP Blood Clinic of your arrival and will provide you with directions to your waiting area.
Please make an appointment if you wish to use the GP Phlebotomy service in Tallaght Hospital. This appointment service has also been rolled out in Peamount Hospital.

- You must have a Tallaght University Hospital request form signed by your GP to avail of this service.
- Confirm with your GP if you are required to fast for your blood test.
- You may have sips of water during your fast.
- Check with your GP if you should take your medication before your blood test.

Directions to Adult Out Patient Blood Tests Area: Enter via the main entrance and take the second left. Out-patient phlebotomy is just down the corridor at the seating area.
Please take a blue ticket, then take a seat and wait for your number to be called.
At present this is a walk in service. As afternoons are quieter than mornings, they may be suitable for patients who are not required to fast for their blood tests.
Please make sure to bring all forms with you.
Blood Tests (Children)
To book your appointment online please click on the button below. Please note that the blood test must be booked in advance as there is no walk-in service available.
Opening Times - (Children)
- 8am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm on Monday - Thursday
- Friday 8am-12:15pm
These times may vary slightly on the day due to patient/clinic demands. Blood tests must be booked on-line in advance.
Directions to Children's Blood Tests Area: The Children's Blood Test Room is located in the Children's Outpatient Department (OPD) on the ground floor of the hospital. Enter via the main entrance, take the first right (past the toilets) and right again into the Children's OPD main reception.
Please ensure that you bring all blood forms for your child with you to the hospital. Blood tests cannot be undertaken without the proper paper work to accompany the sample to the laboratory.
